Upgrading to ejabberd 2.1

Having tested Ejabberd 2.1 I expect to be migrating over to this at some point in the near future. It’s possible I will just do this when the ejabberd process crashes, but will update this blog entry with the latest news.

This upgrade should not require you to change anything, but it is possible that you may need to re-register with transports.

[Updated 12:40 27/01/2011] Server is down, migration work is underway.

[Updated 13:15 27/01/2011] Switchover to ejabberd 2.1 has completed and you should be able to log in again now.

[Updated 13:55 27/01/2011] Server experienced a few hiccups that have been fixed. All should be right again.

Migration Closed

Jabber.org.uk account migration has been going on for over six months and so it has now been closed. You can now register new accounts (using “Your Account” in the Links on the right) on the jabber.org.uk domain. You cannot, as yet, register in-band (within your Jabber client) – though this will be enabled soon.

Please remember as per the AUP accounts not used for six months may well be deleted.

Last chance to migrate your account…

As of August 15th it will be six months since we migrated to ejabberd. On or after the 16th we will be opening up the jabber.org.uk domain for new registrations and you will no longer be able to migrate pre-ejabberd accounts. So if you have an account to keep please do so now.

The xmpp.org.uk domain will remain open for free registrations as it’s always been.

Migration

The new server code is up and running. To be able to log in you must first migrate your existing jabber.org.uk account. This process doesn’t take too long, but we will require an email address. Please read the notes carefully. I will be on the jabber conference room tonight for a while in case of any problems.

Registrations are closed on jabber.org.uk for the time being.

The jabber.org.uk is currently down for migration to the new software.

The migration to the new softer will be happening this Thursday at around 2pm GMT. All accounts will have to be migrated to the new system, but it should be a more reliable method for storing your login details and your rosters.

UPDATE: This is likely to happen mid week next week (around 23rd).

We have been testing the new server software (ejabberd) as well as updated transports (AIM/ICQ/Yahoo/MSN) for a while now and have worked out the process for migrating your accounts to the new software.

This migration is probably going to happen between Christmas and New Year.

The migration process will go like this:

You will go to the migration page and log in with your username & password.
You will have to agree to the new AUP.
You will have to enter in an email address. This address will be required as an administrator has to convert your account. You can edit/remove this address later and it will not be publically accessable.
The administrator will convert your account and you will be emailed
You can log in and re-register with transports if required.

New account registrations will be disabled for six months to give plenty of time for you to migrate accounts. We also have a new domain (xmpp.org.uk) so that new users can be registered there.
